Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite!

Blog Prompt: Describe your sleeping style. Are you a side sleeper, snoring on your back sleeper, wake at the slightest sound sleeper, sprall across the bed and sleep through an earthquake sleeper?

Slipping between the sheets is one of my favorite times of the day, or should I say night. I'm one of those people that falls asleep quickly, and can then sleep through almost anything. This isn't always the case, but usually it holds true.

I have sleep apnea and have to use a cpap machine when I sleep. When I went in for my sleep study, they found out that I woke up about every 2.5 - 3 minutes. I thought I was sleeping all through the night! However, waking up in the morning was so difficult, and I was always tired during the day.

I would watch a television show or movie and always fall asleep during it. When we would rent a movie, my husband would ask why I wanted to watch such and such a movie again, and I would tell him that we'd never seen it. Turned out, he had watched the movie, but I had fallen asleep soon after the opening credits, and couldn't remember having rented it. The doctor was surprised that I had never fallen asleep driving. He put me put on medication for narcalepsy until I was on the cpap for a few weeks and my sleeping balanced out.

I no longer sleep sitting straight up, and our life is so much better. Lack of sleep makes both you and your mate very grouchy, and can lead to a lot of arguments. We don't have those anymore, and we both feel healthier and better rested.

So, how do I sleep now? I usually sleep on my left side, or back, and don't take up too much space on the bed. We have four dogs, and they all share the bed with us, usually plastered up against me. Buster, the smallest dog usually sleeps on my feet or up on my pillow by my head. Misty, is medium-sized, and she sleeps along my knees and calves, pressed as closed as possible to me. Nina and Reece are the big dogs, and one of them is usually against my torso. Nina tries to get as close to me as possible, and has pushed me off the bed numerous times, in her effort to get closer. People think we are crazy to allow them up on the bed, but it didn't seem too bad when they were puppies. And now we have the added benefit of warmth. Joe likes the room cool, and I tend to get very cold. So the dogs give me extra warmth during the cold spells. I think that is all the room that I need. I've noticed that when I take a nap, I still take up just my area of the bed. I don't spray my body across it. Just used to it I guess.

I am also a very sound sleeper. I usually go to sleep with the television on. The noise doesn't bother me at all. One morning, Joe asked about the dogs barking the night before. I had no idea what he was talking about. He said that they were standing on the bed and barking after a light flashed on the wall. I never heard a sound. But, when my mom was terminal, she lived with us, and we put a monitor in her room, so she could let us know whenever she needed something. I would go to sleep and if she said anything during the night, I would hear her. At one point, she listened to big band music day and night. It drove me nuts. Any sound from her room would waken me, including the music. Now, I would give anything to hear that music again.

InXs

The group? Nope. This is referring to alot of the items that we still have to go through after we cleared out Mom's house. My garage is packed to the rafters, as is my brothers. Mom collected alot of different things, and those items were easy to distribute. Items such as her kachina collection, or wild bird collection. These little treasures are proudly displayed in our homes.

But other items, such as the hundreds of cookbooks, still need to be gone through and determine what to do with those that no one wants. Name any kind of ethnic cooking, or type of produce, and Mom had a cookbook pertaining to it. I'd love to save them all, and cook at least one item from each, but we just do not have the space for all of them.

We also need to go through all the needlework supplies that she had accumulated over the years. Fabrics, flosses, cross-stitch charts, trims, needles. Between myself, sister-in-law and nieces we should be able to get it distributed. Plus others have expressed an interest in some of it also.

And the finished needlework. We had determined that every member of the family would get a piece of needlework to remember Mom. We have yet to figure out who will get what piece. Some of the pieces held special memories for individuals in the immediate family, and those are now in our homes. But, there is still a lot more to go through. I never realized how much Mom had made until we began clearing out the house and found box after box of completed works! Pictures, pillows, blankets, sachets, light switch covers, eyeglass cases! I can't even begin to list all the different types of items she had finished.

Mom's crafting and collecting is something that I inherited from her. One of my christmas gifts was a new external hard drive for my computer. Since I began digiscrapping, my hard drive has filled up quickly. I moved a bunch of the files this weekend and was able to free up 25G of space! I find it relaxing to scrap, and I can understand how Mom arrived at all the boxes of needlework. I'm my mother's daughter. And rather proud of that! :)

This Year...

Resolutions. It's difficult to put them to paper, and live up to them. But here goes.
  • Get more organized. Not just the house, or computer, but in all aspects of life. Sometimes, I go so in-depth at getting organized, that it overwhelms me. So streamlined organization is needed.
  • Get healthier. Don't want to claim that I'm gonna loose so many pounds, or quit smoking, etc. My goal is to get healthier. Hopefully, those other little goodies like weight loss and smoking cesssation will follow with it.
  • Spend more time with family. The family is spread across the country - actually the world. I intend to spend more time with them, be it in person, via the phone, or on the net.
  • Do something just for myself daily. Doesn't have to be big. Just something to remind myself that my needs and desires are important. Could be spending 15 minutes to read a book, getting together with friends, or taking a walk with the pups.
  • Complete unfinished projects. This alone will take all year!!
